Malin was established in 2023 by Malin Sofia L. Strandbech, a Danish textile and fashion designer with a profound passion for natural dyeing and sustainable fashion. Graduating from the Royal Danish Design Academy in 2022, Sofia creates one-of-a-kind textiles exclusively using natural dye materials such as botanicals, plant matter, minerals, non-toxic metals, and food waste.
"At Malin, we believe that true beauty lies in the natural world, and this philosophy is reflected in every piece we craft. We embrace the unpredictable nature of our dyeing process, treating our fabrics through alchemical dye sessions, ancient shibori techniques, and bundle dyeing, transforming each textile into its own unique story"
Using a variety of plant-based dyeing techniques, local flowers, plants, and natural pigments are transformed into unique patterns. Malin also collaborates with small suppliers who provide discarded flowers and organic waste, which are then incorporated into the dyeing process. Collected rainwater is used in the dyeing process to further minimize the environmental impact.
This slow and meticulous process is essential to our values, as we believe that the time, care, and attention invested in each piece make it truly special.
Based in Stevns, Denmark, Sofia draws inspiration from her surroundings, finding beauty in the decay of plants - a reflection of our commitment to sustainability and respect for the planet.
All our products are made from high-quality, OEKO-TEX® certified silks. Each textile piece is entirely unique, as there is only one of each item. All products are sewn and dyed in Denmark.
